Still not a priest.

Renata scowled. Not at anyone in particular. It was just one of those moments where logic had won out and the result was displeasing.
She watched her nose wrinkle and wriggled it until she knew she looked ridiculous. Took the sting out of it somehow.
"I don't want to be a priest anyway. Too many other things to do. And besides, if I were a priest I'd have to care about all sorts of things. This is better."
She wasn't convinced.
"And she's a good priest. Even if she's a naga. And Dawnish."
That, at least, was true.
"And you can still be involved if you want to."
Getting out of it might be more of a problem, she grinned to herself.
Her posture shifted, shoulders dropping and chin rising.
"You have your Ambition. You have your Path. And looking after others... isn't that really a job for someone else?"
"True, self, true. It's not like you've given all that many fucks before. You just wanted to do it to press your agenda about one thing, and if Severin couldn't convince them, you'd barely have much more of a chance."
"And besides, don't you have your own family to look after? And a clutch of Highborn to entertain?"
She looked at the scribble of her latest songs. Not great. But not bad. Something they'd like to sing around a fire, anyway.
Give it up, Renata. You're still no priest. And that's just fine.
